About Gay Demon

In reference to medieval European woodcuts detailing the debauchery of witches and demons, Gay Demon wears its title with raucous delight, in defiance of demands for self-flagellation.

Tynan spent several months volunteering in Youth Leadership with a small-town Pentacostal church. Advocating for mental health support and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ youths culminated in their disgraced departure. This image was inspired by accusations that they were possessed by “gay demons”.

Over time, Gay Demon has become a symbol of queer celebration. It’s been exhibited multiple times, with its debut in the Keynote Midsumma exhibition Queer My Head in 2022.
