A portrait oil on canvas painting, 75cm tall by 60cm wide, Eden working has a peach coloured background, with the upper half painted white in quick vertical and horizontal strokes that roughly blend, and do not reach to the edges. The lower half of the canvas is washed with grey over the peach, blending out from around the subject who is seated here. She is a Vietnamese Australian woman, in her twenties, with straight black hair falling past her shoulders, and an eyebrow-length fringe that reaches down across her left eye. She sits cross-legged, facing us but eyes downcast to the laptop that rests open on the black trousers of her lap. One foot, wearing a white sock, pokes out to the left of the frame, and she wears a yellow jumper, loosely outlined. Her face is carefully detailed, with white highlights amongst the black lines which comprise her features; her eyebrows peeking out from under her fringe, her smooth upper eyelids, her mouth closed, with full lips. Her skin has been rendered in tones of warm-grey and white. Her cross-legged form finishes about an eighth of the way up the frame, as if she is sitting, or perhaps floating, amongst the ethereal, pale turmeric background, with slight shadows beneath her foot and legs. — Eden working (2022) – oil paint on canvas 75x 60cm

This oil painting on beechwood panel is 70cm wide and 60cm high, a full body portrait in a range of earthy tones of burnt umber, from solid dark chocolatey brown to pale ochre. Lying horizontally across the centre of the image is the titular figure, Maggie, a late twenties Anglo-Australian woman, laying on her right side on a couch. Her face is on the left of the canvas, resting upon a cushion near the arm of the couch, and her right arm is curled up nearby. Her face is highly detailed, almost photorealistic, but softened by the gestural style of the artist. Maggie’s eyes are open, gazing directly at the viewer, or perhaps just past us. Her face is oval, unwrinkled, and natural with gentle shading below her eyes, small, precise brushstrokes forming her dark eyebrows. Her mouth is ever so slightly open, with a neutral expression. Her long hair is in a loose style piled on her head, her left ear peeking through the loose hair trailing down the side of her face. Her left arm lies vertically down across the dark, nearly black t-shirt she wears, and her body remains only a rough shape, blending across the right hand side of the image, merging with the loosely figured couch and the large, motion filled brushstrokes which form the background. — Eden working (2022) – oil paint on canvas 75x 60cm
